Last week, Robert Tockstein went to the scene of an accident in which his wife had struck a pedestrian at an intersection. While he was there providing comfort to her, he was struck in the roadway and severely injured. The 69-year-old man was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Police say that the first accident, the one involving his wife, occurred around 8 p.m. The pedestrian that she struck was taken to the hospital and his injuries are said to be non-life threatening. The accident that killed Tockstein happened after he moved his wife’s vehicle and was walking back to his wife.
Both accidents are currently under investigation, but at Eugene Bruno & Associates, we think this story highlights some of the many dangers that pedestrians face around San Diego each day. Do you know where to turn if you are injured in a pedestrian incident?
If you need a San Diego pedestrian accident attorney, you can count on our experienced team to secure the compensation you need for your accident-related expenses.
Pedestrians face more danger than any other group in and around the roadways because of their vulnerability. Our bodies simply have no protection from the force of a vehicle that weighs thousands of pounds.
When a person gets struck, both from the initial impact and then the impact with the ground, they are very likely to suffer severe injuries.
We commonly see the following as a result of pedestrian accidents:
These injuries require extensive medical treatment. Even then, a person may suffer a long-term disability that prevents them from returning to work and required extended care.
We know that many pedestrian accidents happen due to the carelessness of drivers around intersections and crosswalks. Often, this is because a driver is distracted by their phones or other devices. People who are busy texting or watching a YouTube video are not watching the roadways.
Drunk drivers are a major concern for everyone in or around the roadways. Often, impaired drivers never even slow down before an impact with a pedestrian, causing catastrophic injuries.
We know that negligent and careless drivers are dangers for pedestrians and we think they should be held accountable for their actions.
We know that pedestrian accidents can be scary and difficult to deal with, especially if you are injured. If someone else was at fault, you should seek legal counsel. At the Eugene Bruno & Associates, we want to help you in the aftermath of an accident. We will take your case and work tirelessly to secure the compensation you need for medical expenses, lost income, punitive damages, as well as pain and suffering damages.
