When you are out an about, whether in your own vehicle or taking a ridesharing service, the last thing you are thinking about is getting into an accident. Especially not one caused by a police pursuit.
Unfortunately, that is what happened to a few Uber passengers the other day at a Barrio Logan intersection.
Police say that they were pursuing a vehicle that was driving recklessly when it slammed into an Uber vehicle that was stopped at a traffic light. After the crash, the vehicle that caused the accident sped off and got away.
As of yet, the driver has not been found.
Thankfully, the Uber driver and his two passengers were not seriously injured, but the situation could have been worse. At the Eugene Bruno & Associates, we know that these dangers are present for drivers and passengers each day.
In the story above, we know that the Uber driver or his passengers could not have predicted that accident was going to happen. That is how it is with most vehicle accidents. Hundreds of thousands of people are injured in California each year due to vehicle accidents.
For the latest reporting year, over 12,000 of those injuries were serious. They included major internal injuries like spinal cord damage, brain trauma, and internal organ damage. Severe lacerations and bone damage are also common. These injuries all require major medical interventions.
Often, people are disabled as a result of vehicle accidents. This can limit their ability to work and support themselves and their families.
How is it fair that someone else’s negligence can put a person in financial jeopardy?
In the situation above, all we know is that police were pursuing a dangerous driver and an accident occurred. We can only speculate about why the driver was operating recklessly.
Was he impaired by drugs or alcohol?
Was the car stolen?
We do know that impaired drivers caused 27 percent of all traffic-related fatalities in the state for the latest reporting year, but they are hardly the only problem on the roadways.
Distracted drivers, as well as those who speed and drive aggressively, continue to pose major threats to drivers in and around San Diego.
Accidents are scary, especially if there are injuries involved. At the Eugene Bruno & Associates, we want to help you in the aftermath of an accident that was caused by someone else’s negligence. We will work tirelessly to ensure that you have compensation for:
