A 62-year-old woman was killed in a skydiving accident in California recently after her parachute failed to open.
Nina Mason had experience. In fact, she had just completed three jumps, adding to her over 2,500 career jumps. On her last jump, things did not work as planned. She attempted to open her main parachute, which failed. By the time she tried to open her backup parachute, it was too late. In this instance, Mason was using her own equipment, but we want to point out that this skydiving company has had problems in the past.
The Skydive Lod the Parachute Center is the 16th death this company has experienced since the late 1990s. As recently as last December, the US Parachute association found several major violations at the company. In fact, the FBI raided the business earlier this year.
We know that Nina Mason’s death happened in an incident that most people do not experience, but her situation is not unique when it comes to negligence and wrongful death.
