The last thing you think about at the beginning of the day is that something will happen to the people you love. For Aaron Raspberry’s family, they never expected to lose him when he was only 32-years-old.
Aaron had just bought his new motorcycle and he loved riding. Unfortunately, he was hit and killed by a driver who proceeded to flee the scene. The single father was a San Diego city employee, and his death has left his family and friends reeling.
“He was so funny and goofy and was just the most amazing person,” said his close friend.
Aaron was riding his motorcycle northbound on Main Street near Cesar E. Chavez Parkway when a BMW made a left turn out of a parking lot. Aaron’s motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the vehicle.
The driver fled from the scene in his vehicle, but he has yet to be apprehended.
The father, friend, and city employee died from blunt force torso injuries.
We do not yet know why the driver fled the scene, but there is a good chance he was intoxicated.
Drunk drivers are a major cause of wrongful death cases in this country. In the latest reporting year for California, there were nearly 30,000 alcohol-related injuries and over 1,500 alcohol-related deaths from vehicle accidents.
Closer to home in San Diego, the same year saw over 1,000 alcohol-related injuries and deaths in vehicle accidents.
Drunk drivers are particularly dangerous to motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians, as they lack protection from the impact of a vehicle.
Other causes of wrongful death often stem from the following:
